Importing & Exporting vROps Dashboard

In my last post I discussed about creating custom dashboard in vROps. But many a times there comes a situation where customer wants to import dashboards or views into their vROps environment or export an existing dashboard  (.json) to be used to another vROps system. This is very much possible and in vROps and the process is quite simple and straight forward.

First let’s discuss about a situation where we have an existing dashboard (from another vROps system or many a times people publish .json file on open forums) upon which we would like to import a dashboard.

Click on HomeContentDashboard and click on the gear icon and select Import Dashboards

Selecting this will open this dialog box (shown below) where we have an option to browse to the .json file (located locally)

Once the correct file is selected click on Open and it will be ready for import

If required customer can either Overwrite this imported dashboard or Rename it to a different dashboard and use. Once confirm click on Done and save the cnages

For demonstration purpose I’ll be renaming it

The new dashboard is now available in this window and using filter can be searched. Notice the Description Give name to custom dashboard – this denotes the newly created dashboard

Since we have the new dashboard name, go to Home – under Dashboard List scroll to the name assigned to the custom dashboard and here we can see the dashboard recently Imported

Now comes to Export a certain view to be used for reference purpose or to use it in a different vROps environment. This can be achieved from the same location, first select the dashboard which needs to be exported and then go to  HomeContentDashboard and click on the gear icon and select Export Dashboards

This process will export the selected dashboard and save it on local system. Browsing this location can reveal the .json file which can be used later for importing similar dashboard to a different vROps system

Import & Export are very useful functionalities of vROps which makes the entire process quite simple and easy especially for customer who have large environment. Also during migration processes this step simplifies administration job.

With this I end this blog, hope this helps.. till then Happy Reading.. .:)
